Thinking of becoming a volunteer?

Since The David Hall started presenting live music 40 years ago it has been managed and run exclusively by volunteers with the aid of just two part time staff helping us to managing finance and administration. We receive no external support or funding to cover general day to day operating costs so we are always looking for new volunteers.

Our fantastic volunteers help us in a number of areas:-

  • Event stewards
  • Bar staff
  • Box office staff
  • Technical staff (lighting, sound etc.)
  • IT support
  • Food and refreshments for visiting artists
  • Providing cakes and pastries for Coffee Mornings and other events where we provide refreshments
  • Fundraising activities and events
  • Arts classes and workshops
  • Maintaining the building
  • All of the other little jobs that crop up and help keep The Hall up and running.

There are compensations – you get a free drink from the bar, complimentary tickets in exchange for volunteer hours, make loads of friends, meet the occasional ‘star’ and generally contribute towards a very valuable community facility striving to provide the very best in Live Music and the performing arts. Any training required for specific roles (e.g. Box Office), will be done in-house and at no cost to you.

Want to get more involved?

If you have more time to spare we are always on the lookout for volunteers who would like to take on a more pro-active role in running The Hall by becoming a Trustee or Board Associate.

The Board Of Trustees, answerable to the Charities Commission, take on the responsibilities of management, strategy, policy development and supervison. They meet monthly. If you have any relevant experience, especially in music, theatre, building maintenance,  marketing, finance, IT or general management we would be delighted to hear from you.

Board Associates are volunteers, usually with a specific talent or skill, who assist the Board of Trustees by taking on responsibility for a specific area of activity. They report to the board ahead of each board meeting but are not formally appointed as Trustees.

How to become a Volunteer, Trustee or Board Associate

The first step to volunteer is to click on the link below and complete the registration form. You will receive an email confirming your application.

Someone from the Volunteer Administration team will then contact you in response. You will be invited to a “meet and greet” session, usually on the day of an event so you can stay for the event and see for yourself how we operate. You will have an opportunity to tell us a bit about yourself and what roles you are interested in. We will explain how it all works in detail.

Following this, provided you wish to proceed, you will be added to the list of available volunteers and provided with a login to your own Volunteer Dashboard within this web site. From the Dashboard you can see all the coming events and register an interest in any you wish to volunteer for as well as being able to manage your details and preferences.
